Bob officially retired from Carter on July 18, 2025. For the last 24 years, Bob guided Carter's financial strategy, directing the company's investment activities, capital market operations, and cash management. After joining Carter in 2001 as an owner and executive vice president, he assumed the chairman and CEO role in 2002. Bob transformed the company from a full-service commercial real estate firm into a focused real estate investment and development organization.

Under his leadership, Carter invested over $1.5 billion in multifamily, mixed-use, and office real estate since 2004. In 2010, Bob led the creation of two publicly listed, non-traded REITs, Carter Validus Mission Critical REITs I & II, which have invested over $3.5 billion in data center and healthcare assets nationwide.
