Valdosta State Student Union
The existing student union at Valdosta State University lacked adequate space to provide the services students needed on campus. Carter orchestrated the selection of a design and construction team to work closely with the university’s user group, and involved students, faculty, staff and administration in the programming and design process. The project team developed the design for a new 120,000-square-foot facility to replace the existing building. The new facility provides space for the Dean of Students offices, and the Student Affairs offices among other features. A 350-seat theater provides an ideal venue for movies and live performances. The food court features multiple food vendors, with both indoor and outdoor dining areas. An 800-seat multipurpose room can be subdivided into three spaces with folding partitions, and includes state-of-the art audio-visual equipment to accommodate a full spectrum of events. The building also houses the campus bookstore, and a convenience store. Carter also coordinated the bond financing for the project, which was completed on schedule and under the established budget.
