USF Research Park
The University of South Florida Research Foundation wished to re-energize the development of the USF Technology Center Research and Development Park after the 87-acre park had remained dormant for years. The University of South Florida administration and Board of Trustees selected Carter as master developer and managing partner for the 1.1 million square foot development which it would use to develop and promote the research activities of the university’s world-renowned researchers in all of its colleges.
Carter ensured that the park was designed and developed to accommodate freestanding research and development buildings for university and private-industry research along with multi-tenant structures for smaller, compatible operations. Consistent with this, Carter created a master development plan, arranged financing, managed project construction and developed project budgets and schedules. Carter also acted as facilities and leasing manager for the new buildings.
Carter delivered 250,000 square feet of offices and laboratories, which included BSL- 3+ labs for the Center for Biological Defense.
Since the delivery of the development, USF corporate partners have greatly benefited from the opportunity to collaborate with world-renowned faculty involved in leading-edge research. Ongoing research is being conducted in the areas of bioscience, oceanography, neuroscience, microelectronics, and satellite communications and mapping.
