Lovett School Parking Deck
The Lovett School wanted to recapture existing surface parking areas on campus for additional open space and athletic fields. To meet this objective, the school decided to build a new 300-car parking structure to accommodate parking for faculty, staff, students and campus visitors. The new deck is located near the edge of the school property to lessen traffic in the center of campus.
Carter worked with the design team and zoning consultants to craft an agreement with neighboring residents for approval of the new structure. The parking structure design incorporated special finishes, materials and enhanced landscaping to minimize the visual size of the three-story deck. Special light fixtures were used to eliminate light spill on adjacent areas. The structure was engineered as precast double tees with topping slabs, precast spandrel panels and brick exterior panels to match the campus architectural style.
Carter managed the design and construction process for the new deck, as well as for a new athletic practice field at the site of the former surface parking area.
