Georgia State Student Housing
Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, Georgia State University is one of the country’s leading urban research universities. For decades, Georgia State University had primarily been a commuter school, that was beginning to change. With record-breaking enrollment, and the need to accommodate 2,000 students closer to the main campus, the university acquired a seven-acre site in downtown Atlanta and sought an owner’s representative to assist in the development of a $160 million, 2,000-bed student housing facility and 1,000-car parking deck. Carter was selected as owner’s representative on the project through a competitive bid process.
University Commons houses primarily freshmen, with designated space for upper class students. Georgia State University students have the option of choosing a private single room in either a two or four bedroom apartment- style unit. All units come with fully equipped kitchens, furnished bedrooms, and living spaces. The housing facility also includes covered parking and study lounges on each floor.
As owner representative, Carter provided a full range of services, including programming, developer selection, financial analysis, and design and construction management. Carter also managed the closeout and move-management process upon facility completion.
