Darlington Middle School
Established in 1905, the Darlington School is a pre-K-12 independent college prep-school. The 500-acre campus is nestled around a small lake at the foot of the Lookout Mountain Range. In keeping with Darlington’s mission of challenging students to “learn with passion,” the school determined that there was a need to revitalize certain facilities on campus to create a more inspiring environment, conducive to learning.
The school’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted to break ground for what would be the first project of its Second Century Campaign – Darlington’s new Middle School. Based on Carter’s longstanding relationship with Darlington and history of successful program management, the school once again turned to Carter to serve as project manager for the construction of the new 50,000-square-foot, $18 million middle school.
The new Middle School facility will have 18 classrooms to accommodate 360 students and will feature a wireless state-of-the-art library/media center, commons area, band room, music instruction area and food-court-like cafeteria.
In keeping with the school’s commitment to be in harmony with its natural environment, the new middle school was constructed to be highly energy efficient so it will qualify for LEED Gold Certification. The facility completed on time and within budget.
