Telecommunications Infrastructure

Two multibillion-dollar companies, AT&T and Sprint provide local telephone service. AT&T is a full-service provider of local, electronic commerce, wireless and long distance, and cable television connections to Orange and Seminole Counties. Sprint provides local and wireless telephone service to residential and business customers in all four counties. Also, Metropolitan Orlando is the site of the world’s first full-service network, a combination of emerging cable, computer and telephone technologies developed by Time Warner Communications. Time Warner has also teamed with The Orlando Sentinel, the region’s largest newspaper, to create the area’s first 24-hour television news network.

The region ranks as the 24th-largest media market in the nation and is served by one weekly business and four daily newspapers, more than 80 radio stations, 11 television stations and 15 major cable service providers. The metropolitan Orlando television market is the 22nd-largest nationwide, while the radio market ranks 38th.

Metropolitan Orlando utility services are noted for their reliability and progressive and modern systems which enable regional utility companies to deliver uninterrupted service to customers at highly competitive prices. Seven electric companies produce or bring power to the region. Water is plentiful, as metropolitan Orlando sits atop one of the state’s largest freshwater aquifers. An excess supply of natural gas within Florida ensures availability and reasonable prices.
