Eater Atlanta | Seven of Atlanta’s Most Anticipated Restaurants, Spring 2019
Spring officially begins on Wednesday, March 20, ushering in one of the busiest seasons for restaurant openings in Atlanta. This winter saw hotly anticipated restaurants like Lazy Betty in Candler Park, El Tesoro in Edgewood, and AIX and Tin Tin in Westside opening across the city. But, the first half of 2019 has a lot more restaurants to look forward to opening in the spring and early summer. Here are seven of Atlanta’s most anticipated restaurants slated to open by July in Atlanta.
Wood’s Chapel BBQ
Where: Summerhill, 85 Georgia Avenue
What: The owners behind The General Muir (TGM), Fred’s Meat & Bread, Yalla, and The Canteen open Wood’s Chapel BBQ in Summerhill this May — during “National Barbecue Month.” Chef Todd Ginsberg leads the kitchen at the 5,200-square-foot restaurant on Georgia Avenue and TGM’s pastry chef Chris Marconi Daugherty is overseeing the desserts. In addition to barbecue plates, Ginsberg plans to offer sandwiches like fried, smoked catfish, a barbecue-inspired Cuban sandwich, brisket grilled cheese, and lamb belly cemita or torta on the menu at Wood’s Chapel.
Where: Summerhill, 77 Georgia Avenue
What: Junior’s Pizza, a pizza delivery pop-up going permanent in Summerhill, aims to open on Georgia Avenue in June. The pizzeria, owned by Alex and Jennifer Aton, hopes to begin construction this month. Junior’s offers New York-style, thin crust pizzas, using ingredients like cup and char pepperoni — a small pepperoni which curls when cooked — and plans to serve beer and wine. The restaurant features “eclectic pizza-themed murals and artwork” from local Atlanta artists, as well as indoor and outdoor seating.
