Curbed Atlanta | Exclusive renderings: Aloft hotel and another retail hub unveiled for Summerhill

Across the street from where the Atlanta Braves used to play in Summerhill, a new hotel and retail complex is in the works that could substantially change the vibe of an area that’s witnessed striking changes in recent years.

At the northwest corner of Georgia Avenue and Hank Aaron Drive, just north of Georgia State Stadium, developer Stafford Properties is preparing to move forward with a 115-key Aloft hotel, officials told Curbed Atlanta this week.

The six-story lodging option, expected to launch construction in Q3 this year and wrap about 18 months later, would be the first hotel to join master developer Carter’s ongoing overhaul of the area around the stadium.

Replacing surface parking in the neighborhood, the hotel would also feature roughly 11,000 square feet of retail space at its base, Stafford’s executive director of real estate Melissa Varnadoe told Curbed.

She said Stafford isn’t ready to announce retail tenants, but future guests can expect another restaurant to join Georgia Avenue’s growing slate of eating and drinking options.

The project would be sandwiched between two apartment projects—one by Aspen Heights, the other by Carter—and would share a parking deck with the latter development, Varnadoe said.

According to new renderings shared with Curbed, the forthcoming hotel is expected to feature abundant public art and green space.

Carter reps say the hotel project is just the latest piece of some $730 million in development ongoing or completed in the area.
