Atlanta Business Chronicle | Construction on airport hotel to kick off early next year
Construction on a new InterContinental hotel at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport should start early next year.
This week, Scott Taylor, president of Carter, gave members of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) an update on the $250 million mixed-use project. It includes a roughly 500-key hotel with 35,000 square feet of meeting space and a 50,000-square-foot office building, Taylor said.
Carter is developing the project with Majestic Realty Co. It will sit on 27 acres at the airport. Plans were revealed last November. John Portman & Associates is designing the project.
“We really think it’s something that’s going to be eye-catching and something the city will really enjoy,” Taylor told ACVB members. “This will be the only four-star hotel or any hotel that is truly physically connected to the terminal. You walk right out of baggage claim. We will have a covered canopy … and you go into a beautiful atrium. We will have several restaurants. And a very nice water feature over our ballroom.”
Another cool feature is a 5,000-square-foot “sky bar” on top of the hotel.“You can look all the way around and see this attraction of planes taking off and landing,” Taylor said.
